We have a new Board member, Alex Vougia. Alex was a resident at Impala and now teaches at the Architectural Association School of Architecture. We believe it’s important to have ex-residents on the Board because they give our decisions a resident perspective. Alex joins Henrik Lonberg – another ex-resident who sits on our Board.
The Board met last week. It approved a rent increase of 2.5% the rate of inflation in December 2016 as measure by the retail price index. It also approved our annual budget and agreed the expenditure for the re-roofing of Jeannine House.
The Board also discussed and approved a plan to let up to 12 pre-designated Zebras flats at full market rents for a limited period. The purpose of this venture is to raise additional income to fund improvements to Zebra’s existing homes and to help us develop new homes.
Flats will be let for a minimum 6 month tenancy period and our target market will be visiting academic staff and post-doctoral students who are moving into other forms of academe , i.e. groups who we currently don’t house but who are associated with academe.

We should finish redecorating the stairwells at 30 and 34 Chalcot Crescent by mid-April.
We’ve now received the tenders to renew the roof covering at Jeannine and work should start in May/June and will take 8/12 weeks to complete. This is a major project and Steve will be liaising with residents. Whilst the building is scaffolded (and it will be alarmed) we’ll carry out some repairs to windows and stonework and also redecorate. Again we’ll liaise with everyone affected well before we start the work.
