Welcome to the sixth Friends of Zebra newsletter. Friends are people who have benefitted from the experience of living in London with us, former Board & staff members, and others who have an interest in what we do. The purpose of our newsletter is to keep you in touch with what we are up to, and to assure you that you still matter to us, even if you are not directly involved anymore. We hope you find it informative, and we would welcome your news & pictures, to be included in future publications, if you would like to send them to us.
FRIDAY 29TH JUNE 2018 7.30-10.00PM
There will be a live jazz band and a superb barbeque (halal and vegetarian options) with refreshments
The General Data Protection Regulation is a timely piece of European legislation that comes into force on 25 May. The premise is that consumers are in charge of their personal data and the consent to use personal data is much more onerous
All breaches will need to be reported to the Information Commissioner's Office within 72 hours (unless the breach is unlikely to result in a risk to the data subject) and there are fines.
Data protection must now be at the heart of decision making within organisations which need to be transparent with individuals about what they are using their data for, how it might be shared, the legal basis for processing their data, and how long it will be kept.
Individuals have the rights to complain about the way in which their data is handled, to be 'forgotten’, to withdraw consent and to have access to their own information.
We have introduced a Privacy Notice for residents and applicants which tell them what data we collect, why we collect it and who we might share it with (and this is essentially limited to contractors who carry out work in your home, government departments and agencies, our regulator and auditors, with utility companies or with other organisations and agencies where we are legally allowed to do so). The Privacy Notice can be found on our website.
We have appointed Heidi as our Data Protection Officer
Having already approved our annual rent increase the Board met last Monday, 12 March, to approve our budget and plans for the financial year as well as to review Zebra’s performance over the last few months.
As we’ve already said our major project for the year is the external repair and re-decoration of the render work to the front of Jerome House which is beginning to look a bit jaded. Currently our plan is to do this over the summer. We’ll be carrying out improvements to the garden at Sentosa House. We will also continue with our programme of upgrading kitchens and bathrooms.
We’ll also continue to improve all aspects of Health and Safety including upgrading fire detection equipment and fire doors.
We’ll be looking at our policies on data protection (there’s a new directive known as the GDPR) and lettings (how and to whom we let our accommodation). We’re looking at our internal processes and IT so we can improve our services to you. And we want to continue to bear down on our costs whilst achieving efficiency savings.
